# How to Exclude Customers from Using a Coupon

## Overview
Excluding customers keeps a coupon away from shoppers you don't want redeeming it, whether that's specific emails or tags, your B2B accounts, or both. What's available depends on your coupon type, Clip to Apply or Discount code.

| | Clip to Apply | Discount code |
| ---- | ---- | ---- |
| Customer eligibility | All customers, All logged-in customers, Specific customers | All customers, Specific customers |
| Exclude by email | Yes | Not available |
| Exclude B2B customers | Hides the coupon entirely (customer must be logged in for Klip to detect B2B status) | Hides the offer; code can still be entered manually at checkout |

|| The steps below cover Clip to Apply. Discount code coupons only support B2B exclusion, covered in Step 3.

## Step 1: Open Eligibility & Targeting
1. Open the **Klip Coupons** app from your Shopify admin.
2. Create a new coupon, or edit an existing one.
3. Go to the **Eligibility & Targeting** step.

## Step 2: Exclude by email (Clip to Apply)
Under **Exclude customers**, choose **Customer emails**.
* Customer emails: enter an address, then press Enter or click Add to add it to the list. Repeat for each address you want to block.

||| Without checkout email validation turned on, this only hides the coupon on product pages when a customer with an excluded email is signed in; guest checkout emails aren't checked. Turning on checkout email validation (Step 4) also blocks an excluded email entered at checkout, even for guests.

## Step 3: Exclude B2B customers
Below **Exclude customers**, check **Exclude B2B customers** to hide this coupon from B2B accounts.

|| Klip can only tell a customer is B2B once they're logged in, so a B2B customer browsing as a guest won't be caught. Ask B2B customers to log in before checkout.

|| For Discount code coupons, this hides the offer, but the code itself stays active. A B2B customer who already has it can still enter it manually at checkout.

## Step 4: Turn on checkout email validation
This closes the gap for guests: a customer who applies a Clip to Apply coupon before entering an excluded email will still have it removed at checkout.
1. Go to **Settings > Advanced**.
2. Under **Checkout email validation**, turn on **Validate excluded customer emails at checkout**.

| Double check that it's turned on. Once it is, Klip re-checks each Clip to Apply coupon's excluded emails whenever the checkout email changes, including for guests. It doesn't affect Discount code coupons or customer tags. Turn it off only if your store runs into Discount Function limits.

## Additional tips

| Use email or tag exclusions for individual shoppers or groups; use Exclude B2B customers to keep a coupon consumer-only.

| Double check spelling. A single typo lets an excluded customer through.

| Discount code coupons only support B2B exclusion, and even then the code can still be entered manually.
